My One-Year Plantiversary

Growing Into a Greener Life

A year ago, I brought home one of my very first plants — a Thanksgiving cactus. I had just started reworking my living room and thought introducing a little vibrant green might make the space feel warmer and more alive. I didn’t realize then that this small decision would spark an entirely new part of my life.

I still remember walking into a local plant shop and feeling instantly inspired. Seeing all the textures, shapes, and colors made me realize just how creative you can get with plants and how beautifully they can transform a home. It was nearly impossible not to come home with everything on the shelves.

Before that moment, my plants consisted of a single marble pothos… one that had pretty unfortunate genetics. No matter how well I cared for it, every new leaf arrived already damaged. Instead of discouraging me, it pushed me toward a more intentional direction: focusing on pet-safe plants and keeping any toxic ones safely in the bedroom where little paws can’t reach. I ended up letting go of that pothos and starting fresh with plants I felt confident and excited to care for.

Over the past year, my home has slowly grown into a handful of cozy plant zones:

Quiet Foliage consists of these areas:

The Living Room — my main sanctuary, filled with most of my plants and the place where I’m building a soft, calming atmosphere.

The Bedroom — home to my few toxic plants and a smaller group of favorites.

The Kitchen — simple for now, but slowly becoming brighter with foliage.

The Bathroom — a warmer, drier area of the home where just a couple of plants sit comfortably.

The Canopy — a full bedroom dedicated to cannabis, where I’ve just finished growing my very first batch of plants and am currently in the middle of the drying stage. It’s been such a rewarding learning experience, and I’m excited to bring you along for my next run. I’ve already picked out the seeds I’ll be starting with, and I’m looking forward to documenting that journey from the very beginning.

Looking back, plants have become woven into my daily rhythms. I usually tend to them mid-morning — a quiet moment just for myself — checking in, watering, adjusting, and taking note of anything new. Those little routines have taught me patience, observation, and the joy of slow, steady growth.

Looking Toward Year Two

As I step into my second year of plant care, I’m excited to deepen my knowledge and understanding so I can continue sharing what I learn with all of you. I already have a few plants in my home that I’m especially hopeful for — the ones I’m quietly cheering on, eager to see how they grow and change over the next year.

I can’t wait to document their progress, celebrate their milestones, and bring you along for every new leaf, every lesson, and every unexpected surprise.

Here’s to another year of growth — for both my plants and myself.
